The Ott family letters are made up of correspondence between Emil and Ida Ott of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and their son Harvey, who lived in Madison, Wisconsin, in the early 1910s. Most of the letters concern Emil and Ida Ott's travels to Egypt and Central Europe in 1911.

Harvey Lincoln Ott was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 22, 1890, the son of Emil H. and Ida Ott. He had two brothers, Irving and Walter ("Wally"). After serving in the United States Army during World War I, Harvey L. Ott followed his father into the grocery business. He died in Tucson, Arizona, in January 1976.
